Sabah spotted cattle breed poised to boost livestock industry
The local spotted cattle breed developed by the Sabah Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) is being positioned as a high-value commercial asset for the region's livestock industry. Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, noted that the breed possesses unique characteristics, including being docile, non-aggressive, and having distinct white eyes and a manageable size.
These traits are expected to attract younger generations to enter the livestock sector, offering potential for both hobbyist farming and profitable commercial ventures. To support the industry, the state government is working to reactivate pastures across various districts. This initiative includes upgrading grazing lands with new fencing and high-quality grass to improve livestock feed quality and address issues regarding stray animals.
