Sabak Bernam strengthens Malaysia’s national food security
The Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA) is expanding its role as a critical food-producing district in Malaysia through advancements in agriculture and the blue economy. A key component of this growth is the SMART Large-Scale Field (SMART SBB) strategy, which originated in Sekinchan and is slated for national expansion to over 150,000 hectares by 2030 to reduce rice import dependency.
In the fisheries sector, major infrastructure upgrades are underway, including the development of the 415-acre Sekinchan Integrated Landing Port and the 600-acre Zon Industri Perikanan Sungai Lang (ZIPS). These investments aim to increase marine fisheries landings by more than 42% through improved cold storage, jetties, and processing facilities.
To combat climate change and rising costs, the RM 131 million Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package has provided cash assistance, fertilizer support, and fuel subsidies to over 14,000 farmers and fishermen. Additionally, under the Rancangan Selangor Kedua (RS-2) initiative, several projects are being implemented to bolster biodiversity conservation and agricultural yields.
