Sabalenka brushes off rumored Federer remark after Berlin win, while Chwalińska beats Sznaider at Roland Garros

World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated Ekaterina Alexandrovna at the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin and was asked whether Roger Federer had said she was “number one”. Sabalenka said she had not heard such a comment and noted that Federer and Rod Laver were in the stands watching other matches. She expressed pride in the win and mentioned the pressure of impressing senior players.

In the women's singles at Roland Garros 2026, Russia’s Diana Sznaider lost to Poland’s Maja Chwalińska in the semifinals, 7‑6, 6‑4. Sznaider said she cried after the defeat, citing fatigue and difficulty adapting to Chwalińska’s style. She reflected on the disappointment of missing a Grand Slam final but praised her own effort on court.
