Sabat Siirt Mutfağı opens to preserve local culinary heritage
The Sabat Siirt Mutfağı has officially opened at the Agriculture and Tree Museum to preserve and promote the regional culinary culture of Siirt. The project was implemented by the Provincial Directorate of National Education's Maturation Institute (Olgunlaşma Enstitüsü) to ensure traditional recipes are passed down to future generations.
During the opening ceremony, Siirt Governor and Deputy Mayor Dr. Kemal Kızılkaya emphasized the importance of protecting the city's historical architecture, traditional lifestyle, and gastronomic values. The facility aims to showcase Siirt's unique flavors to both domestic and foreign visitors while serving as a center for cultural documentation.
In addition to cultural preservation, the restaurant is designed to support local employment, specifically providing job opportunities for women to prepare and serve traditional meals. The name 'Sabat' refers to the passages that run under houses and connect paths, symbolizing the connection between the past and the future.
