Italy faces multiple road incidents and closures, sparking traffic jams

On August 5‑6 2026 several incidents disrupted Italy’s road network. A sudden deer crossing near Sabaudia forced a car off the Litoranea, seriously injuring a 15‑year‑old girl who was taken to Santa Maria Goretti hospital in Latina; the driver escaped with minor injuries.

Road works on the Milena viaduct required the closure of a stretch of State Road 189 near Agrigento overnight, with detours advised for traffic between Palermo and Agrigento.

In Rome, an incident on the A24 near the Pittaluga tunnel and a fire after a van lost its load on the Grande Raccordo Anulare (km 24+800) led to lane closures and long queues, with police and emergency services securing the area.

On the A1 near Rome, an overturned van at km 575 caused a 7‑km jam and diverted traffic onto alternative routes. Two rear‑end collisions on the Florence‑Pisa‑Livorno highway near Montopoli and Pontedera also created extensive delays toward the coast.
