Saber Interactive maintains AI strategy despite controversy

Saber Interactive leadership has stated they will not change their communications strategy following backlash regarding the use of generative AI. The controversy stemmed from CEO Matthew Karch expressing a willingness to replace writers with AI, leading to public condemnation and an apology to writer Stella Sacco after claims surfaced that she was replaced by ChatGPT.

Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits clarified that while the studio is experimenting with AI in smaller projects like ‘Rideshare Stimulator’, generative AI is not being used in major upcoming titles such as ‘Space Marine 3’, ‘Hellraiser’, ‘Stuntman’, ‘Turok’, or the ‘Jurassic Park’ game. Willits noted that the studio remains circumspect with high-profile licensed IPs, contrasting with the strict anti-AI stance held by Games Workshop.

Willits also addressed the broader gaming industry's economic state, suggesting that overspecialization and large team sizes contribute to current financial challenges, though he argued the crisis is not as severe as reported.
