Sabesp announces R$ 6.9 billion sanitation investment for São Paulo region

Sabesp is implementing a R$ 6.9 billion investment package to expand water and sewage services in the northern region of Greater São Paulo, aiming for universal sanitation coverage by 2029. Guarulhos will receive the largest portion of the funds, totaling R$ 4.33 billion, followed by Cajamar, Mairiporã, Franco da Rocha, Francisco Morato, and Caieiras.

The infrastructure plan scheduled for 2026 to 2029 includes the installation of 797 kilometers of water networks and 583 kilometers of sewage collection networks. The project also involves building eight sewage treatment plants, two water treatment plants, and hundreds of pumping stations. Since the second half of 2024, these expansion efforts have integrated over 183,000 residents into the sewage treatment system.

In its second-quarter earnings report, Sabesp noted a 9.4% year-over-year increase in adjusted net revenue, driven by tariff adjustments and customer additions. While water production decreased by 4.3% due to milder weather and pressure-management measures, the company continues to expand its social tariff programs, with nearly 2 million units now accessing discounted rates.
