Sabesp denies water contamination in Itapeva following viral outbreak

Sabesp has denied claims of water contamination in Itapeva, located in the interior of São Paulo, following a recent surge in viral infections among the local population. The water utility company confirmed that laboratory tests conducted on samples from the Water Treatment Plant (ETA), reservoirs, and various points in the distribution network show that the water meets the potability standards established by the Ministry of Health.

The City of Itapeva issued an official statement on Thursday addressing resident concerns regarding water quality. While Sabesp maintains that the water is safe, local authorities are conducting an epidemiological investigation to analyze the location of cases and potential links between patients to determine the cause of the outbreak.

The São Paulo State Health Secretariat, through the Epidemiological Surveillance Center (CVE-SP), is monitoring the increase in acute diarrheal diseases in the city and is awaiting further data from municipal health departments.
