Sabesp warns of rising sewage blockages in Botucatu

Sabesp has issued an alert regarding the increasing volume of waste clogging the sewage system in Botucatu. The company reports removing an average of 1.5 tons of waste per month, including items such as diapers, sanitary pads, condoms, plastics, fabrics, food scraps, and cooking oil.

To date, Sabesp has recorded 1,259 instances of pipe blockages in Botucatu. Additionally, approximately 20 tons of waste and sand have already been removed during maintenance and cleaning operations at pumping stations. The company estimates that roughly 18 tons of waste will be extracted from the system throughout 2026.

Improper disposal of these materials can lead to severe consequences, including pipe damage, overflows, and sewage backing up into residential properties. In extreme cases, the company may need to excavate pavement to replace damaged sections of the pipeline.
