Sabiha Gökçen Airport leads Europe in punctuality improvement
According to the 2026 summer report from Eurocontrol covering June 1 to August 31, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport achieved the highest increase in departure punctuality among Europe’s 30 busiest airports. Despite a 7 percent increase in flight traffic, the airport improved its punctuality by 12 percentage points.
In terms of overall punctuality rates, Stockholm Arlanda led the group at 82 percent, followed by Oslo and Istanbul Airport, both at 81 percent. Lisbon recorded the lowest punctuality rate among the top 30 hubs at 52 percent.
Sabiha Gökçen also reached record-breaking levels of daily flight traffic during the summer season, joining a group of 16 airports that hit historic highs. Turkish Airlines also showed strong performance, ranking second among the 20 busiest airlines in Europe for arrival punctuality at 85 percent, following SAS at 86 percent.
