Sabina Berman discusses the narrative approach of the film Digger
Screenwriter and playwright Sabina Berman has described the intent behind the film ‘Digger,’ stating that the work does not align with left-wing or right-wing ideologies. Berman clarified that the film is not intended to be protest cinema or to impose a specific political interpretation on its audience.
Instead, the film aims to provide an ‘uncompromising portrait’ of humanity and the political and economic elites who make decisions that impact the rest of the world amidst worsening environmental catastrophes. Berman noted that the narrative explores how elites use language to control how events are interpreted, stating, ‘When they cannot control reality, what do they do? They control the narrative.’
Berman expressed hope that the film’s imagery serves as a metaphor to help the public understand and organize around the current realities facing the planet.
