Actor and director Sabri Yunus, 65, has been accepted into the Master of Malay Literature Education program at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). He will enter the program via the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Award of Qualifications (APEL. Q) pathway.
Sabri, who previously attempted to pursue university studies twice while working at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in the 1980s and early 1990s, noted that work constraints prevented him from enrolling at those times. He intends to use his studies to research specific pantun within Dikir Barat and to clarify the meaning and function of the term ‘Tukang Karut,’ which he believes is often misunderstood by the public.
Television personality Ahmad Fedtri Yahya, 45, has also received an offer to pursue a Master of Malay Language Education through the same APEL. Q pathway. Both individuals serve as pilot students for the program developed by the UPSI Faculty of Language and Communication.
