Sabrina Wittmann dismissed as FC Ingolstadt 04 head coach

FC Ingolstadt 04 has dismissed Sabrina Wittmann from her position as head coach of their men's team in the German 3. Liga. Wittmann made history in 2024 as the first woman to hold a head coaching role for a professional men's football team in Germany's top three tiers.

The decision follows a period of poor performance, including three defeats in the last four official matches, leaving the team in 13th place. Club sports director Harald Gärtner stated that the move was necessary to provide a new impulse and realign the team's sporting direction after evaluating recent results.

Wittmann, 35, expressed regret over the abrupt end to her tenure at her hometown club, where she had been involved in various technical roles since 2009. She noted that while she wished to continue her journey with the team, the necessary confidence was no longer present.
