SABU film ‘Arrested Memory’ set for 2027 release

The film ‘Arrested Memory’ (Japanese title: ‘Kioku Zero’) is scheduled for a nationwide release in Japan in early summer 2027. Directed by SABU, the project is a Japan-Taiwan co-production filmed entirely in Taiwan.

The story follows a highly skilled detective suffering from memory impairment due to a traumatic incident as he investigates a 300 million yen kidnapping case. The film stars Taiwanese actor Ethan Ren as the detective, alongside Moon Lee and She Ying-hsuan. Japanese actors Shinichi Tsutsumi and Reika Kirishima also feature in prominent roles.

The film has received international recognition, including a standing ovation at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. It also won the second runner-up prize for the People's Choice Award in the Midnight Madness section at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, where screenings were sold out.
