Sabu to debut ‘Arrested Memory’ at Venice and Toronto film festivals

Japanese director Sabu is set to debut his latest thriller, ‘Arrested Memory’, at the Venice and Toronto film festivals. The project has been in development for nearly two decades, following failed attempts to film in Germany, Korea, the United States, and Japan.

Filmed in Taiwan, the movie features an international cast and crew from Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, and France. The plot follows Lee, a Taipei police inspector who suffers from memory loss following the disappearance of his team during an investigation. While struggling with his amnesia, Lee is tasked with solving the kidnapping of the son of an influential Japanese businessman.

Sabu noted that the long development period allowed for deeper character evolution. Originally conceived as a corrupt detective, the protagonist was reimagined as a respected officer rediscovering his identity through the lens of memory loss.
