SAC privatization enters critical phase in Sicily

The privatization of SAC is entering a sensitive stage as international operators prepare to submit non-binding offers. Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, recently visited Fontanarossa airport, describing the facility as a strategic asset and a potential Mediterranean hub.

In a move to influence the airport's future, the Municipality of Gela has formally requested to participate in the governance of the Sicilian airport. The city aims to attract passengers from the provinces of Agrigento, Caltanissetta, and Enna, which have historically faced limited flight services. Meanwhile, the Catania City Council has established a Special Commission for SAC to oversee the process.
