Sacaba authorities demolish illegal housing on municipal land

Authorities in Sacaba, Cochabamba, conducted a large-scale operation to evict residents and demolish between 50 and 60 illegal structures built on municipal land. The demolitions targeted areas including green zones near the La Viña cemetery and other protected sectors spanning over 75 hectares.

The operation involved heavy machinery and a significant police presence of approximately 300 officers to ensure compliance and protect municipal workers. During the process, some residents resisted the eviction, leading police to use chemical agents to disperse crowds and facilitate the removal of belongings and subsequent demolition.

Municipal officials, including legal advisor Germán Ordóñez and Municipal Council President Henry Díaz, stated that the constructions lacked authorization. Authorities also warned of potential land-grabbing schemes involving the use of allegedly falsified documents to deceive the population.
