Sacha Baron Cohen discusses Marvel role and Jewish identity

Actor Sacha Baron Cohen recently shared details regarding his casting as the character Mephisto in the Marvel series “Ironheart.” During a live taping of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast at New York’s 92nd Street Y, Baron Cohen praised the show’s production team for their sensitivity toward his Jewish identity.

He noted that the predominantly Black production and directing team proactively addressed the historical negative associations between Jewish people and the devil. Baron Cohen described the gesture as incredibly considerate and empathetic, stating that it made him feel seen at a time when many Jewish people feel misunderstood or overlooked.

In addition to discussing the Marvel series, Baron Cohen used the appearance to promote his new film, “Ali G: Who Iz I?”, which marks the return of his character Ali G after more than two decades.
