Sacha Baron Cohen premieres ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’ in Los Angeles

Sacha Baron Cohen attended the Los Angeles premiere of his directorial debut, ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’, appearing in character wearing the iconic yellow outfit associated with Ali G. He was accompanied by actress Morgana Robinson, who portrays Ali’s girlfriend, Julie, in the film.

The mockumentary, produced by Amazon MGM, follows Ali G as he navigates life after discovering his partner is pregnant. The production was filmed in secret over the course of one year.

Despite the premiere, the film faces a global boycott campaign led by the British media platform NewsCord. Critics of the film argue that the character and the movie reinforce racial stereotypes, claiming the persona serves as an ‘alibi for racism’ by allowing audiences to laugh at Black street culture. The campaign has reportedly gathered approximately 56,000 supporters and has contacted dozens of major cinema chains.
