Sacha Baron Cohen to star in Quentin Tarantino stage play

Sacha Baron Cohen will make his West End stage debut as the lead in ‘The Popinjay Cavalier’, a new stage play written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The production is a swashbuckling comedy set in 1830s Europe, described as a “rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise” that celebrates the romance of theatre.

This project marks Tarantino’s first professional venture as a stage director. The play is being co-produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sonia Friedman Productions. Tarantino has indicated that if the London production is successful, it could potentially be adapted into a feature film, which may serve as the tenth and final film of his career.

The production is expected to premiere at an undisclosed West End venue in spring 2027. While the full cast has not yet been announced, the development process is expected to occupy a significant portion of Tarantino’s time over the next two years.
