Sachiko Kazama exhibition explores changing landscapes

The Hirosaki Brick Warehouse Museum is currently hosting a solo exhibition by artist Sachiko Kazama. The exhibition features a 16-piece series titled ‘New Matsushima’ (2022), which was originally presented at the Reborn Art Festival 2021–2022 in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture.

Kazama’s work explores the concept of ‘impermanence’ through the lens of changing landscapes. Inspired by 17th-century Imari ware and vintage postcards, she uses aluminum plates to depict the scenery of Matsushima. Her work contrasts historical compositions with the modern reality of the landscape, including changes following the Great East Japan Earthquake, to reimagine the area as a ‘new landscape’ that connects the past with the future.
