Sachsen-Anhalt reports high number of missing children

As of August 1, 2026, a significant majority of missing persons in Sachsen-Anhalt are children and adolescents. According to data from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), out of 129 total missing persons, 105 are individuals under the age of 18.

Approximately half of all missing person cases are typically resolved within the first few weeks. Under LKA guidelines, a person is classified as missing if they have left their usual social circle, their whereabouts are unknown, and there is a presumed danger to their life or physical integrity. For minors, such danger is automatically assumed.

Regarding long-term cases, 51 individuals under 18 have been missing for more than twelve months, compared to 17 adults. The LKA noted that when children and adolescents remain missing for extended periods, the cases often involve child abduction, where the child's location may be suspected, prompting efforts to return them to custody.
