Sacramento basketball programs begin 2026-27 season preparations

Sacramento-based basketball programs are beginning preparations for the 2026-27 season. The Sacramento State men's basketball team has started official practices ahead of their season opener against Jessup on November 2. This season marks a significant transition for the Hornets as they move from the Big Sky Conference to the Big West Conference, resulting in an increased schedule of 22 conference games, most of which will be played within California.

In professional basketball, the Sacramento Kings are preparing for training camp. While the roster appears largely set, certain players are competing for specific roles. Former All-Star Ben Simmons is working to secure his roster spot and earn rotation minutes, potentially serving as a backup to Darius Acuff Jr. or playing a power forward role.
