Sacramento considers expanding Entertainment Zones to six new areas

The Sacramento City Council has advanced a proposal to expand the city’s Entertainment Zones, potentially adding six new areas where patrons can legally consume alcoholic beverages in designated outdoor public spaces. A final vote on the expansion is expected on Sept. 15.

This initiative follows successful pilot programs conducted in 2025 during the Rainbow Festival and Terra Madre Americas events. The new zones aim to transform commercial corridors into vibrant destinations, with city officials anticipating that the expansion will boost local economies by encouraging visitors to stay longer and increase spending at nearby bars and restaurants.

The proposed zones would extend beyond the central city into several neighborhoods, including parts of downtown, Broadway, the Arena area, and Oak Park. Specific locations under consideration include 9th and I Street, 14th and Broadway, 24th and Broadway, 24th and K Street, the Arena area, and the Oak Park Triangle.
