Sacramento Kings waive Elfrid Payton, Tristen Newton, and Viktor Lakhin

The Sacramento Kings have waived three players following training camp: veteran guard Elfrid Payton, Tristen Newton, and Viktor Lakhin.

Payton, a nine-year NBA veteran and former No. 10 overall pick, was competing for a spot on the standard roster under a non-guaranteed deal. Because his contract lacked Exhibit 10 language, he is not eligible for a bonus by joining the team’s G League affiliate.

Tristen Newton and Viktor Lakhin are expected to join the Kings’ NBAGL affiliate, the Stockton Kings. Newton, a former UConn guard and 2024 second-round pick, earned All-NBA G League first-team honors last season. Lakhin, an undrafted player from Clemson, averaged 10.3 points and 7.1 rebounds in 31 G League appearances last season. Both Newton and Lakhin can earn bonuses of up to $91,000 if they spend at least 60 days with Stockton.
