Sacramento mail theft investigation targets potential election ballots
Authorities in Sacramento, California, are investigating a daylight mail theft that may have involved election ballots. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on a Tuesday in the College Glen neighborhood. Surveillance footage reportedly shows a man in a gray SUV opening a postal truck's rear compartment and stealing trays of mail.
U.S. Postal Inspector Jonathan Lanning stated that there “may have been” ballots affected by the theft. The incident comes as Sacramento County has recently mailed out ballots ahead of the upcoming Election Day.
Local officials, including Ken Casparis from the Sacramento County elections office, noted that any voter who does not receive their ballot can request a replacement to ensure they are able to cast their vote.
