Sacramento State athletics report mixed Big West Conference results

Sacramento State athletic programs have experienced mixed results across volleyball and soccer during recent Big West Conference play.

In women’s volleyball, the Hornets’ home winning streak was ended by Cal Poly, who secured a three-set sweep (25-12, 25-15, 25-16). This marked Sacramento State’s first conference loss, bringing their record to 7-7 overall. However, the team rebounded in a subsequent home match, sweeping the UC Riverside Highlanders 3-0 to improve to 2-0 in conference play.

On the men’s soccer pitch, the Hornets are looking to build momentum following a 4-2 victory over the Tigers. After a difficult 2025 season, the team is entering Big West play with a focus on proving conference expectations wrong. Recent highlights include a 3-1 win over UC Riverside, featuring goals from Hiroshi Yang and Zac Giles.
