Sacramento woman killed by alleged stalker in parking lot

Shalini Thakur, 38, was shot and killed in a Sacramento, California, Panera Bread parking lot on September 8. Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Rohit Rohit, a DoorDash driver who had allegedly been stalking and harassing Thakur since January.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, Rohit accosted Thakur at her vehicle. As she attempted to flee, he chased her and shot her multiple times, including a final shot to the head at close range. Following the shooting, deputies located Rohit in his vehicle using the Flock system. He was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigations revealed a pattern of harassment, including the placement of an Apple AirTag under Thakur's car hood and the deflation of her tires. Despite a restraining order and previous reports to authorities, the stalking continued. Thakur's mother stated that her daughter had repeatedly contacted police regarding the harassment prior to the fatal encounter.
