Sacramento woman killed by stalker; suspect found dead after pursuit
A 38-year-old woman was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon outside a shopping center near Howe Avenue in Sacramento County. Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Rohit Rohit, who had allegedly been stalking the victim since at least January.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the harassment included placing an AirTag under the victim's car hood, deflating her tires, following her to her workplace, and entering her residence while she was sleeping after obtaining a copy of her apartment key. Although the victim secured a restraining order in May, investigators noted a suspected violation occurred in late July when the suspect left groceries at her doorstep.
The fatal confrontation occurred near a Panera Bread restaurant when the suspect approached the victim. As she attempted to flee on foot, the suspect chased her and opened fire. Following the shooting, law enforcement engaged in a pursuit that ended in a standoff on Highway 50, where Rohit died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
