Sacred Buddha relics arrive at Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh

The sacred relics of Shakyamuni Buddha have arrived at the historic Gaden Namgyal Lhatse, also known as Tawang Monastery, in Arunachal Pradesh. The ceremonial reception was led by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the National Museum in New Delhi, and the International Buddhist Confederation, the exposition aims to showcase India’s Buddhist heritage. The relics will be displayed at three key centers: Tawang, Bomdila, and Namsai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the event as a moment of immense spiritual and cultural significance, noting the homecoming of the Piprahwa Relics after more than a century. The exposition coincides with Lhabab Duchen, a significant occasion in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Large numbers of devotees have already gathered at the monastery, participating in historical exhibitions related to the discovery of the relics.
