Sacsayhuamán: Vandalism reported on engraved rock in Cusco
An engraved rock in the Lanlacuyoq sector of the Sacsayhuamán Archaeological Park in Cusco has been vandalized with red and pink pigments. Security personnel reported the damage, which included two names and other unidentified inscriptions written on the stone surface.
Specialists from the Cusco Decentralized Culture Directorate have intervened to remove the pigments using specialized tools and materials to ensure the original surface of the archaeological element is not altered. The Ministry of Culture has announced it will pursue legal action to identify those responsible and will increase surveillance within the park to protect cultural heritage.
