Sada approves 7 million euro Maior River flood prevention project

The Sada City Council has unanimously approved a collaboration agreement with Augas de Galicia to execute the Maior River project. This initiative, described by local government as one of the most significant projects in recent decades, aims to improve drainage capacity at the river's mouth and protect the urban center of Sada from flooding.

The project involves opening currently channeled sections and creating relief channels along the banks. It will also include the reorganization of road and pedestrian traffic, the creation of new leisure and garden areas, and the integration of the river into the urban fabric.

The total investment is estimated at 7,032,969 euros, with the costs split equally between Augas de Galicia and the City Council. The municipal contribution will be distributed between 2027 and 2030. Additionally, the project is 60% co-financed by the European Union as part of climate change adaptation and risk prevention objectives.
