Sadales tīkls targets Friday for full power restoration in Latvia

Following a severe summer storm that saw wind speeds exceeding 30 meters per second, electricity distribution operator Sadales tīkls is working to restore power to the remaining affected households in Latvia. As of Wednesday evening, approximately 8,500 households—about 3% of those impacted—remained without electricity. The most significant disruptions are concentrated in the Aizkraukle, Bauska, and Jēkabpils regions.

Repair efforts are being conducted in an intensified mode, with over 200 crews deployed. To address the extensive damage, which includes fallen trees on lines and broken power line poles, crews from less affected areas like Kurzeme have been redirected to harder-hit zones. The company is also utilizing drones to accelerate the identification of damaged infrastructure. To assist in the recovery, crews from the Estonian distribution system operator, Elektrilevi, have been mobilized to help.

Sadales tīkls expects to have power fully restored to all affected customers by Friday, August 28. The company is coordinating with local municipalities, the State Fire and Rescue Service, and Latvian State Forests to manage repairs and restore mobile communications.
