Sadam Houssain murder investigation targets illegal labor brokerage

Investigators in Foggia are looking into the murder of Sadam Houssain, a 32-year-old Pakistani national found dead in the trunk of his car near Borgo Mezzanone. Houssain had been missing since August 4, after last being seen working in an agricultural area near Cerignola. His body was discovered by his brother, Nazim Houssein, who noticed the vehicle near the Borgo settlement.

The Foggia Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case as voluntary homicide against unknown persons. Authorities are exploring two primary motives: an unpaid debt related to his arrival in Italy or a conflict involving the 'caporalato' system (illegal labor brokerage).

Evidence recovered by Carabinieri includes notes regarding workdays and payments, as well as documents such as INAIL certifications and unidentified Arabic-language papers found in a trolley. Witnesses and family members suggest Houssain acted as an intermediary, using his vehicle to transport workers from the Borgo Mezzanone ghetto to agricultural fields and managing payments between laborers and farm owners.
