SADC electoral forum emphasizes institutional transparency

During the Executive Forum of the Electoral Commissions of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in Maputo, officials emphasized the need for strengthening and democratizing electoral institutions to ensure transparency and public trust.

Benvinda Levi advocated for increased investment in institutional reinforcement, staff training, and the modernization of electoral management to combat challenges such as disinformation and digital manipulation. She noted that the credibility of elections depends on the impartiality and professionalism of electoral administrations.

Dom Carlos Matsinhe, President of Mozambique’s National Elections Commission (CNE), highlighted the vital role of SADC in providing technical support, advice, and the exchange of experiences among regional electoral bodies. He stated that regional cooperation helps strengthen institutions and promotes peace and stability across Southern Africa by ensuring legitimate electoral processes.
