SADC Media Awards recognize journalists from Angola and South Africa
The 2026 SADC Media Awards winners were announced in Durban, South Africa, during the 46th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government. The awards recognize journalism that promotes regional integration, development, and cooperation among Southern African Development Community member states.
Angolan journalists achieved significant recognition, with Dome Semedo winning the photojournalism category for the image ‘Porto do Lobito-Porta de entrada e de saída da SADC’. Aurélio Janeiro secured second place in the press category for his report on the Lobito Corridor. Other Angolan journalists, including Rafael Damião and Walter Marcelino, also placed in the radio and television categories.
South African journalists were also honored, with Siyabulela Duda receiving second prize in the photo category for his work regarding women in leadership within the SADC region, and Seakga Relebogile Tladi earning second prize in the radio category for a report on sanctions in Zimbabwe.
