Saddle Brook officer seriously injured in I-80 hit-and-run

A Saddle Brook police officer, Nicholas Genuario, was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 80 early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. near milepost 62.4 in the eastbound lanes.

Genuario was conducting a traffic stop involving a gray Nissan Maxima in the highway’s deceleration lane when an unknown vehicle traveling east struck both the officer and the stopped car. The driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision. The three occupants of the Nissan Maxima were not injured.

New Jersey State Police are currently seeking witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident. They have requested that individuals contact the Troop B Totowa Station. Authorities also used the incident to remind motorists of New Jersey’s ‘Move Over Law,’ which requires drivers to change lanes or slow down when approaching emergency responders and disabled vehicles.
