Sadhana Shivdasani: The 1960s fashion icon and cinema star

Sadhana Shivdasani, a prominent actress of the 1960s, left a lasting impact on Hindi cinema through her acting and unique fashion sense. Born on September 2, 1941, in Karachi, Pakistan, to a Sindhi family, she moved to Mumbai following the partition of the subcontinent.

Her father named her after the 1930s actress Sadhana Bose. Sadhana began her career at age 14 as a background dancer in Raj Kapoor’s ‘Shree 420’ and later received a symbolic payment of one rupee for her role in the Sindhi film ‘Abana’.

She was eventually launched in the film ‘Love in Shimla’ by producer Sashadhar Mukherjee. Her distinctive hairstyle and clothing styles became major fashion trends during her era.
