Sadiq Khan supports expanding London bus model across England
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has expressed support for British Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s plan to reform bus transport across England by implementing the ‘London model’.
The proposed reforms include capping ticket prices, expanding free travel rights for people with disabilities, and supporting the return of certain bus networks to public control. Khan noted that London has successfully utilized these policies for years, citing achievements such as the Hopper fare, which allows unlimited bus journeys within 60 minutes for a set price, and the Superloop express network.
Khan emphasized that buses serve as a vital social tool for connecting diverse communities and highlighted that London currently operates Europe’s largest fleet of zero-emission buses.
