Sae Joon Park, US Army veteran, pardoned by New York Governor
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has pardoned Sae Joon Park, a 57-year-old Korean-born US Army veteran, erasing two prior criminal convictions. Park had self-deported last year following an immigration check-in where officials threatened arrest due to his past record.
The pardoned convictions include a 2009 charge of second-degree bail jumping and a 2007 charge of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Hochul stated that Park and five others were granted second chances due to their rehabilitation and positive life changes.
While the pardon does not guarantee his return to the United States, Park's lawyer, Danicole Ramos, noted that it provides the legal grounds necessary to attempt to vacate his removal order.
