SAESC Summit 2026 to discuss anesthesia advances in Florianópolis

The SAESC Summit 2026, organized by the Society of Anesthesiology of the State of Santa Catarina (SAESC), is taking place this Friday and Saturday in Florianópolis. The event brings together medical specialists to debate advancements, new techniques, and challenges in anesthesiology, with a primary focus on patient safety.

Key topics of discussion include pediatric anesthesia, specifically sedation in pediatric dental procedures, and the safety of anesthesia administered outside of hospital settings, such as in clinics and offices. The summit will also address care for the elderly, pain control, and cardiac surgery.

A significant point of interest is the impact of GLP-1 class medications, used for treating diabetes and obesity, on anesthetic practice. These drugs can delay gastric emptying, requiring specific precautions during pre-surgical evaluations. Dr. Ricardo Zanlorenzi, president of SAESC, emphasized that the evolution of the field necessitates specialized knowledge to manage the complex evaluations and care required before and after procedures.
