Safari Madrid rescues lynx, wolf and four vultures after wildfire

A wildfire on the night of 23‑24 July threatened the southwest of the Community of Madrid, approaching Safari Madrid in Aldea del Fresno to within about 500 metres. The park activated its emergency protocol and, together with the Guardia Civil and local services, moved to safeguard nearby wildlife.

A team from Safari Madrid entered the Kuna Ibérica fauna centre in Navas del Rey, where the fire was imminent, and rescued a boreal lynx, an Iberian wolf and four vultures (two black and two lappet‑winged). The mammals were anesthetised for safe handling, later revived under veterinary supervision, and all six animals are now housed in temporary, monitored enclosures. The park plans to return them to Kuna Ibérica once conditions are safe. Spokesperson José Luis Cano said, "Actualmente estamos volviendo a la normalidad en Safari Madrid, aunque estamos alerta." The park is gradually resuming normal operations while remaining on alert.
