Safaricom brings Decode innovation experience to students in Western Kenya
Safaricom has introduced its Regional Decode Café to technology students at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and other institutions in Kakamega, Western Kenya. The initiative is designed to provide hands-on experience with emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), AgriTech, and Cyber Security.
Through Builder Labs and Chalk Talks, the program aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world application. A specific focus on smart hardware was provided to demonstrate how connected farming tools, such as sensors and automation, can improve agricultural productivity and market access in the region. The initiative is part of a broader effort by Safaricom to support digital innovation and economic participation among young developers and engineers outside of established tech hubs.
