Safaricom surpasses one million internet subscribers in Kenya
Safaricom Plc has become the first internet service provider in Kenya to surpass one million subscribers. According to data from the Communication Authority of Kenya for the period of April to June 2026, Safaricom reached 1,024,950 fixed data subscriptions, capturing a 36.1% market share.
Other major players in the Kenyan fixed internet market include Jamii Telecommunications Ltd with 19.1% market share, Wananchi Group (Kenya) Ltd with 10.4%, and Ahadi Wireless Ltd with 9.5%. The total fixed internet market in Kenya reached 2.84 million subscriptions, representing a yearly growth of 32.4%.
Beyond fixed data, Safaricom maintains significant dominance in other sectors, holding 69.8% of mobile subscriptions, 64.4% of mobile broadband subscriptions, and 88.8% of mobile money transfers. Amidst this intense competition, industry analysts note that service quality and the ability of support teams to bridge technical communication gaps are becoming critical factors in customer retention for ISPs.
