Safe38 group criticizes £6m A38 safety improvement plan
The road safety campaign group Safe38 has criticized a proposed £5 million to £6 million safety improvement scheme for the A38 between Liskeard and Trerulefoot, labeling the plan ‘half-baked’.
Safe38 chairman James Millidge has urged National Highways to abandon the current proposals in favor of a long-term solution, specifically calling for the closure of central reservation gaps and the implementation of a grade-separated junction. The group expressed particular concern regarding the proposed removal of certain right-turn movements, such as at the Menheniot junction.
The current scheme is expected to enter detailed design in 2027/28, with work potentially beginning in late 2028/29, pending funding. Collision data for the Menheniot junction between 2012 and 2024 includes one fatality, three serious injuries, and nine slight injuries.
