Safety agencies host child car seat inspections in Maui and Imperial County

Local agencies in Maui, Hawaiʻi, and Imperial County, California, are hosting child safety seat inspection events on Saturday, Sept. 26, to promote road safety and prevent injuries.

In Maui, the Maui Police Department is collaborating with the Keiki Injury Prevention Coalition, the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The event will take place at the Kīhei Police Station parking lot, offering free inspections by certified technicians to ensure seats are installed correctly.

In Imperial County, the Public Health Department is partnering with the California Highway Patrol, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, and First 5 Imperial for the 6th annual Child Safety Awareness Day. Officials noted that many parents struggle with improper installation or using seats past their height and weight limits. During this event, if a seat is found to be expired, damaged, or incorrectly sized, a replacement will be provided and installed at no cost.
