Safran to supply optronic systems for German Bundeswehr infantry
Safran Electronics & Defense has secured a major order from Rheinmetall Electronics to supply advanced optronic observation systems for the German Bundeswehr. The contract is part of the ‘Infanterist der Zukunft’ (Infantryman of the Future) program, aimed at modernizing the German military's dismounted forces.
The order includes more than 1,000 MOSKITO monocular observation systems and several hundred SHARPCROW handheld electro-optical systems. These devices are intended for medium and heavy infantry units to enhance situational awareness, target localization, and tactical decision-making.
The MOSKITO system provides day and night vision, laser range-finding, and precise target geolocation in a compact, lightweight design. The SHARPCROW system integrates thermal imaging, low-light capabilities, and digital information transmission. These systems will be manufactured in Germany by Safran Electronics & Defense.
