Safranbolu welcomed over 104,000 tourists in first half of year

Safranbolu, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Karabük, Turkey, welcomed 104,258 overnight tourists during the first six months of the year. According to Mutlu Çidem, President of the Safranbolu Tourism Operators Association, the total figure represents a 2.4% increase compared to the same period last year.

While the number of foreign tourists decreased by 13% year-over-year, a significant rise in domestic visitors—totaling 83,366—offset the decline. The district's appeal is attributed to its historical mansions, inns, baths, and unique architectural structure, as well as its proximity to major cities like Ankara and Istanbul.

Plans are underway to expand the 10th annual saffron harvest festival into an international event. The festival is being organized in collaboration with the Safranbolu Municipality and the Safranbolu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with official announcements expected in October.
