SAG-AFTRA elevates Duncan Crabtree-Ireland to CEO
The SAG-AFTRA National Board has voted to extend the contract of Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and elevate him to the role of CEO. The extension, which passed with a 98.34% majority, moves his contract expiration from June 2028 to June 20, 2032.
Crabtree-Ireland, who has served the union as general counsel and chief operating officer before becoming national executive director in 2021, will continue as the union’s chief negotiator. The new title is intended to reflect the expanded breadth of his responsibilities. The extension is designed to provide stability during a period of industry disruption and will carry him through the next major negotiations with studios, which are scheduled to begin following the expiration of the current agreement in June 2030.
Under his leadership, the union has prioritized negotiations regarding artificial intelligence to protect performers' likenesses and voices. SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin praised the decision, citing Crabtree-Ireland’s expertise in bargaining and operational management as essential for facing global corporations.
