SAG calls for private veterinarians to assist pet entry at borders

The Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) has issued a call for private veterinarians to join an official list of independent professionals. This initiative aims to assist travelers entering the country with dogs or cats that do not meet specific zoosanitary requirements at border controls.

When a pet fails to comply with entry regulations, SAG inspectors will provide the owner with a list of available professionals. Owners can then contact a veterinarian directly to perform necessary procedures at the border crossing, such as clinical examinations, rabies vaccinations, parasite treatments, or microchip implantation.

SAG clarified that the relationship between the veterinarian and the pet owner is strictly private. The service will not have an employment bond with these professionals; instead, SAG will only manage and distribute the list. The first list is scheduled for publication on August 16 and will be updated every three months. Interested veterinarians must hold a valid Chilean degree and apply through the official SAG website.
